NSCA School Board

The North Spencer Christian Academy Board of Education consists of the pastor of North Spencer Baptist Church, five members of the church, two members from supporting area churches, and the School Administrator, who is an ex officio member. Current Board members are President Sandra Brown; Vice President Patricia Harmon; Sherland Decker; Patsy Stevens; Joyce Pasto; Daniel Hunt of the Candor Congregational Church; Paul Cody of First Baptist Church of West Danby; Administrator Dr. Guy Kinney, and Pastor Steve Barrows.

Dr. Guy Kinney – NSCA Administrator

Dr. Guy Kinney has been the Administrator of North Spencer Christian Academy since August 2014. He brings a wealth of educational experience as a teacher in both public and private Christian schools, and as an administrator and counselor. He is NYS certified in several subjects including Music and Spanish. Dr. Kinney also possesses a law degree. He and his wife Barbara are active in teaching, counseling, and enjoying their grandchildren.

Mrs. Lori Pittsley – Office Manager

Mrs. Lori Pittsley came to NSCA in 2008. She has been the Office Manager since 2016. She ensures that the NSCA Office runs smoothly with the myriad details from the smallest child’s booboo’s to meeting our NYS Education Department required reports. Biography. I Have held a variety of positions at NSCA, including four years as third and fourth-grade teacher, now office manager. I like to craft and I am the Yearbook Advisor.

Mrs. Rhonda Newill  – Business Manager

Mrs. Rhonda Newill has been on the Office staff since 2016. She is the business manager, substitute teacher, and all around “go-getter.” Biography: I have been associated with NSCA for a number of years. I was a substitute teacher before joining the staff and faculty full time.

Miss Jennifer Barber  – Athletic Director

Miss Jennifer Barber is the Athletic Director, and Girls Basketball and Volleyball coach. She has been at NSCA since 2000 serving as the Bookkeeper and in numerous athletic coaching positions. She attended NSCA and is a graduate of SUNY Cobleskill.

Mrs. Blythe Atchison -Nursery/PreK

Mrs. Blythe Atchison came to NSCA in 2016 as the Nursery/PreK teacher/Reading Specialist. Her specialties are Elementary Education and Reading. Biography: I received my Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Mansfield University, PA and my Master’s degree in reading education from Elmira College, NY. I hold dual permanent New York State certification in Nursery-6th-grade education and Reading Specialist. I taught students at the third and fifth-grade levels. Some of my prior experiences include about twelve years working at Head Start and two years teaching reading through a federally funded grant. My husband of almost 30 years and I have three children: ages 24, 22 and 19.

Mrs. Janet Ennis  – Kindergarten

Mrs. Janet Ennis became the Kindergarten teacher in 2015. She specializes in early Elementary Education. Biography: I graduated from Practical Bible Training School and homeschooled our six children for twelve years prior to coming to NSCA as the Kindergarten teacher. I enjoy crafting and tea parties

Mrs. Patricia Givens  – 1st /2nd Grade

Mrs. Patricia Givens began teaching at NSCA in 1997, in Grades K thru 3, where she is an Elementary Education specialist. Biography: I graduated Northeastern Bible College, Essex Fells, NJ, and then taught Release Time Education and at the Boylston Girls Home, New England Bible Fellowship, Rumney, NH for two years. I taught at Christian schools in NJ and PA for twenty years, spent two years as a private tutor, and taught at the Nate Saint Memorial School, in Shell, Ecuador, where I met my husband Mike. I have currently been teaching at NSCA for twenty years and loving it!

Mrs. Marcy Cody  – 3rd/4th Grade

Mrs. Marcy Cody taught first grade here in 1994/95. A family move relocated them to OH. She returned to NSCA in 2008 as an Elementary teacher. Her specialty is Elementary Education. Biography: I am a graduate of NSCA who went on to Cedarville University. I graduated Cedarville with BA in Elementary Education. I have been at NSCA a total of ten years now, teaching a variety of grades, such as PreK, 2, 3, 4, and 6th grade.

Mrs. Faith Broome  – 5th/6th Grade

Mrs. Faith Broome came to NSCA in 2015. She currently teaches 5th/6th Grades. Her specialty is Elementary Education. Biography: I graduated from Concordia College with a degree in Education and a minor in Religion and Psychology. My absolute passion is teaching and spending my days with my students learning and having fun! My husband and I moved to this area from Long Island in 2015. We love to spend time outside and explore our new home! We have an adorable baby girl, a dog, and two cats!

Miss Victoria Masters  – 7th/8th Grade

Miss Victoria Masters began teaching at NSCA in 2014. She specializes in secondary education and history, enjoying painting and drawing. Biography: I was raised in a Christian home and attended Christian school until I graduated and went to Toccoa Falls Bible College in GA. I graduated with a degree in secondary education with a history concentration. I moved from PA to NY to come to NSCA where I continue to teach history, English, Bible, and art in grades 7 to 12.

Mrs. Patricia Barrows  – 7th/12th Grade

Mrs. Patricia Barrows is the Middle/High School Science teacher. She has served in this capacity since 2013. Her specialties are Science, Health, and Bible. Biography: I am a graduate of Michigan State University, Binghamton University, and Davis College. I grew up living around the world, then followed my father into the US Army, serving many years as a Military Intelligence officer. I am a Registered Nurse as well as the Science teacher. I taught Middle School for a year in 2001, then returned in 2007 as the PreK teacher.
I served in that capacity until becoming the Science teacher in 2013. My husband and I raise Jacob sheep and angora rabbits for their wool, as I am a handspinner.

Mr. Michael Givens  – 7th/12th Grade

Mr. Michael Givens started at NSCA in 2012, teaching 7-12th grades. He specializes in Middle/High School Math. Biography: I earned an Associate Degree from SUNY Farmingdale and a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from Binghamton University. I have 40 years experience in Electronics Engineering in various places in the local area. I served in the USAF for 4 years, with a year in Vietnam. I taught at Renovation House for 12 years preparing the young men for their GED test, and taught an electronics course to fellow employees at two different employers for 6 years total. I went on a short-term mission trip to Ecuador, where Mrs. Givens and I met.

Mr. Melvin Foster  – 9th-12th Grade

Mr. Mel Foster started at NSCA in 2013, teaching 9-12th grade and others as needed. His specialties are English, History, and Bible. Biography: I grew up in Candor and decided to follow Jesus as a child at Allen Memorial Baptist Church. I attended Houghton College, graduating with a B.A. in English Literature and a wife, Amanda. I taught English at Ross Corners Christian Academy for seven years. I was a youth pastor for three years, and was ordained by the Candor Congregational Church in 2008, at which time I became their pastor. I am active in the Candor Community Chorus, and am on the Candor Free Library and Candor Community Services boards. I have five children.

Mrs. Vicky Cody – Physical Education and Art

Mrs. Vicky Cody began at NSCA in 2011, where she currently teaches Physical Education and Art to Grades K-12. Her specialties include Science, Language (French, Gaelic) Music, Archery instructor, Creative thinker. Biography: The first 10 years of my teaching career was spent at Twin Tiers Baptist High School, now TT Christian Academy. I then spent seven years in the public sector teaching science at the Tompkins-Seneca-Tioga Board of Cooperative Educational Services, (TST BOCES) Career and Tech center in Ithaca with a curriculum I was solely responsible for creating and implementing. What a privilege!! I really enjoy my current teaching assignment as I have the freedom to choose my Art theme each year, and also to decide which P.E. units we will provide for the year. Both of these programs allow students to express individual talents, allowing them to excel in our small, private school setting.

Mrs. April Middaugh  – Vocal Music

Mrs. April Middaugh came to NSCA from Guam in 2016 to be the music teacher. She leads the vocal music lessons and has led the Christmas program and Spring concert. She has highlighted the NSCA children’s talents by having them perform for local groups and nursing homes.

Mrs. Wendee Buchman Peake – Instrumental Music Teacher

Mrs. Wendee Buchman Peake has served at NSCA for almost twe nty years. She is the Instrumental Music teacher. She specializes in worship teams, concert, jazz and marching bands. Biography: I hold a degree in music with a performance certificate in percussion from the Crane School of Music, SUNY Potsdam, and participated in the 19080 Winter Olympics Orchestra. I hold a Masters degree from Ithaca College. I am a worship leader and songwriter and have recorded several CDs. I am the owner of Purple Sheep Music Studio and the Director of Purple Lightning, a Christian marching band.

Rev. Steve Barrows  – Pastor

Steve Barrows has been our pastor since October 2000. He is a graduate of Practical Bible College (now Davis College), Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary, and Cornell University. Steve is a certified biblical counselor through the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors, ACBC. He is married to Patricia (Trish).His daughter and her husband also bring two wonderful grandchildren to the extended family. Steve and Trish live in Candor on Amazing Grace Farm, where they raise Jacob sheep, angora rabbits, and a varying number of cats
