Kindergarten Parent Note
Welcome to Mrs. Baldwin's Kindergarten Class at North Spencer Christian Academy.
We are having so much fun in our classroom. We celebrated Dr Suess day with the 5th graders and ended our week before Spring break with a camp out day.
April 9th, 2015
I pray that you all have a wonderful Easter break. Spring has finally sprung and we only have ten more weeks of learning left! Please send boots each day. Sneakers are best for classroom time.
The children will now start having seatwork and reading every day, starting next week. Seatwork is done independently during our reading period and will include numbers, phonics and handwriting. The children are doing a great job reading and learning new words. In numbers we will continue to work on before, after and between. We count with pennies, nickels, dimes, count by 5’s and 10. We have introduced the quarter. We have introduced placement 1st – 10th, and they have mastered identifying their number words one – ten. We will introduce the eight addition family and smallest to largest. We continue to work on telling time.
In phonics we will continue to work on special sounds like “spl” in splash, “squ” in squeak, and “scr” in scream. They are really starting to put what they have learned in phonics to work during their reading time. I will continue to send books home two to three times a week and would appreciate your help making sure books come back the next day with their book marks signed by a parent.
In bible we have finished the life of Jesus, his Crucifixion and Resurrection. We will continue to talk about Jesus’ life while here on earth and use his example to talk about our actions and words. We continue to work on Psalm 23. We will continue with our weekly bible verses.
We are also excited about getting ready for graduation. We will be working on a creative, fun graduation ceremony that will make parents proud! I am looking for a parent coordinator for graduation. This person will work with me and the other parents to help organize decorations and food for this special ceremony. The school will be providing the graduation cake. If this is something you would be interested in doing, please let me know.
We have a field trip planned for Thursday, April 23rd to the discovery center in Binghamton. We will plan to go to the Binghamton Zoo in May. We may also plan a picnic in Stewart Park or Harris Hill for June.
If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
